story remains a lacklustre affair

Compared to 2008, the year 2009 has been a lacklustre year
Down South, with relatively few new launches and only a handful
of media companies going ahead with their hiring and expansion
plans. Among these were the Malayala Manorama Group, which
put on hold its GEC and youth channel launch plans, and several
other national players.

The South has been and continues to be a poor cousin of its better dressed, more sophisticated Western counterpart. It is hardly featured in national media stories of the industry. The South needs to lift itself up by the bootstraps to get national recognition; it certainly did not take India by storm last year.
