FM biggies & regional players submit applications for 135 channels in first level of Phase III auctions

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) says it has received 28 applications for the first stage of the Phase III partial auctions that will see 135 FM radio channels go under the hammer in 69 cities.

The last date of submission of applications was March 27, 2015. MIB says that it has collected around Rs 316.91 crore as Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) from the 28 applicants. The applications will now undergo scrutiny and those fulfilling requirements earlier prescribed by MIB will be included in a pre-qualified bidders list.

Some of the big names include DB Corporation, which runs MY FM, ENIL, which runs Radio Mirchi, Reliance Broadcast Network Limited, which runs Big FM, Next Radio, which runs Radio One; Music Broadcast Pvt Ltd, which runs Radio City; HT Media, which runs Fever FM and The Sun Group, which has a pan India presence under the brand name of Red FM.

The Eastern region of the country saw a number of applicants, including a number of new entrants. These included AM Television Pvt Ltd (Guwahati), Odisha Television (Orissa), Pratidin FM Pvt. Ltd (Assam), Venus Autoworks Pvt. Ltd. (Orissa), Sarthak films Pvt. Ltd. (Orissa) and Embassy Nirman Pvt. Ltd. (West Bengal).

Other applicants were The Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Co. Ltd., which runs Club FM; Shahi Shipping Ltd., Pudhari Publications Pvt. Ltd., which runs Tomato 94.3 FM in Kolhapur and Sangli; Renderlive Films & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., based out of Kolhapur; Abhijit Realtors & Infraventures Pvt. Ltd., based out of Nagpur; Rajasthan Patrika, Malar Publications Ltd., which currently runs 7 FM channels in Tamil Nadu under the brand name of Hello 106.4 FM; Nirmal Sagar Buildcon Pvt. Ltd., based in Jaipur; Raipur-based Abir Buildcon Ltd.; Agra-based Remi Overseas Pvt. Ltd. and Sunplant Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd.
