Dainik Bhaskar intensifies North focus with Jammu edition on October 18

Less than two months after its launch in the Ranchi (Jharkhand) market, Dainik Bhaskar is shifting its focus to North India and is all geared to launch its Jammu edition on October 18, 2010. The price of the Jammu edition is yet to be finalised, however initial print run is expected to be around 45,000 to 60,000 copies per day. The paper will aim to woo readers and advertisers with 18-20 predominantly coloured pages.

Sanjeev Kotnala, Vice President, Dainik Bhaskar Group, told exchange4media, “This development is an extension of our editions in North India. Jammu is a lucrative market with a population of almost 15.5 lakh. With this edition, we will be covering most of the Hindi heartland.”

The latest edition will be printed at the Group’s new Jammu-based printing set-up. When asked about the advertisers that the paper would be targetting through the Jammu edition, Kotnala said that they would focus on all local and national advertisers.

Currently, Kamlesh is looking after the editorial part of the newspaper; however, a final call on the Editor of the newspaper is yet to be taken.

In the Jammu market, Dainik Bhaskar will be competing with some of the Hindi dailies that are already present, including Amar Ujala, Punjab Kesri and Dainik Jagran.

Meanwhile, Dainik Bhaskar is planning to foray into the Bihar market by March-April 2011. In September 2010, DB Corp Ltd (DBCL) had announced the company’s mega plans to launch new editions and new printing centres in its existing territories. The paper already launched its fourth edition in Bhatinda on September 12, 2010. Also, it had launched a new printing centre in Madhya Pradesh in Itarsi on September 19, 2010.

Dainik Bhaskar is already available in 10 states with a total 29 editions. Jammu and Kashmir is the 11th state covered by the Group. With the Jammu edition, Dainik Bhaskar will touch the 30-edition mark as well.
