R Vijay Bobby quits Dinakaran as CGM – Marketing

R Vijay Bobby, CGM - Marketing, Dinakaran, the Tamil daily from Sun Group, has put in his papers. He is currently serving his notice period, which ends on December 31, 2013.

Bobby had joined Dinakaran as GM - Marketing in 2007. He was elevated to Chief General Manager - Marketing for the group in 2010.

Confirming the news to exchange4media, Bobby said, “I have completed 40 years in the media industry and I just wanted to move on. I will come back into a full time marketing assignment after a break. I may become a consultant, work as a freelancer or may be write.”

He added, “At Dinakaran, I had the opportunity to bring about a couple of projects, which really helped me expose my talent. I’ve had a wonderful time with the team and am delighted to work with the organisation. Hope to have a great year ahead.”

Bobby has four decades of experience in the media industry. He started his career with Mangaiyar Malar, a Tamil magazine, in the year 1973. In 1979, he joined The Hindu. Later, he moved on to Eve’s Weekly, where he was the Branch Manager. After a three-year stint with The Hindu, he crossed the table and joined Advertising & Sales Promotion Company. Then he worked with Insight Advertising, where he handled Solidaire TV and Butterfly Group, among others.

Bobby also started his own advertising agency in 1993, called Vijay Advertising & Communications. In 2003, he converted the agency to a private limited concern and resigned from the Board and joined Daily Thanthi as Chief Manager - Marketing overseeing all India operations.
