Radio taxis are proving to be not just a safe mode of transport for commuters who can afford them, but also a good outdoor advertising platform for brands and a captive audience inside the cars. EasyCabs, the radio taxi brand of Carzonrent (India) Pvt Ltd is planning to exploit this ‘medium’ in various ways.

EasyCabs is providing advertising space on its entire fleet of cars across the country. The company is also providing advertising space outside the car, depending on the client’s requirements. LED panels have been put up on the cars’ roofs that can be illuminated at night.

Ashok Vashisth, COO, EasyCabs, said, “Advertising in radio cabs is a good form of revenue for the taxi drivers. The advantage of this form of advertising is that it offers good visibility as the vehicle moves all over the city. It is economically a better medium. Moreover, there is no time limit for an advertiser to advertise on a radio taxi. It depends on a company’s advertising budget. However, there is need to created awareness among advertisers about the advantages of this medium.”

Vashisth informed that in the National Capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wanted to enter into a revenue sharing pact with radio taxi operators and talks in this regard were currently on. He added that EasyCabs had advertisers like HP and Vishal Mega Mart had come on board.

He further said, “We are currently working on LCD screens inside the car, which will have real time information. We are aiming to bring this technology to India by early next year.”

Regarding the expansion plans of Carzonrent, Vashisth said, “EasyCabs will soon commence operations in Chennai and Mumbai in the next six months. We are in the process of adding 500 cars in Delhi, 200 cars in Hyderabad, and 300 cars in Bangalore.” The company had begun its operations in Delhi on January 1, 2007 with a fleet of 250 cars, which has expanded to 550 cars at present.
