Will an order be passed on January 19 in the NRS case?

We waited eagerly for January 12, 2003. The NRS case was going to be heard in the Supreme Court. Though, as per sources, there were quite a few big names present at the court, nothing came out of the hearing.

Presence of lawyers like Kapil Sibbal for Mapsor Advertising, which also has Mahesh Chand representing them, Abhishek Manu Sanghvi for Hindustan Times and Shanti Bhushan for Lokmat, has made the case very high profile.

Surprised about how Lokmat was involved? The paper, as per the sources, wanted to find out if a judgment passed by Delhi High Court would be binding on it or whether the NRS findings related to the paper could be used by it.

The Supreme Court, however, has directed the case to Delhi High Court where the case would be heard on January 19. The next date of hearing in the Supreme Court is January 23.

Meanwhile, as is known, Delhi High Court has stayed the use of the NRS figures for India Today. The court had passed this ruling on a suit filed by Living Media claiming that publication of the incorrect NRS 2003 readership figures would cause an irrevocable loss to the company and asked for an immediate stay on the use of the figures. As per an India Today release, the court has restrained use, circulation and publication of the NRS 2003 readership figures for the magazine.

NRS case meanwhile continues in Jaipur court as well. It would be interesting to watch whether the second round of NRS 2003 comes out first or the cases in which NRS is involved are solved first.
