Pitch Exclusive: Nigel Wark to share the secret behind Ford India’s turnaround

The Indian marketplace and the consumers are evolving at a ferocious pace. And savvy marketers are reading these signs of change and ‘breaking new grounds’. It is these activities that will be in the spotlight at the Pitch CMO Summit 2011, which will be held in three cities: Mumbai (November 21), Bangalore (November 23) and New Delhi (November 25).

CEOs, CMOs and marketing heads of the best of the brands that are breaking new grounds will share detailed case-study presentations at the Summit. One such distinguished speaker is Nigel Wark, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India. Wark will be speaking on ‘Exciting Indian consumers and ensuring brand relevance’.

Talking about the challenge of exciting Indian consumers, Wark said that understanding them well was the first step towards this. He noted, “Consumers today do not view brands in isolation, but as an extension of their personality, their lives. Through new media – social and digital – consumers have become our co-creators and are actively participating in sharing feedback, views and experiences. Knowing the pulse of the audience helps Ford learn something new every moment. And this honest, unbiased and direct reality check is the kind of involvement that helps us position and connect with the consumers in a more holistic manner.”

Over the last few years, Ford India has witnessed a big turnaround resulting in a huge jump in its top and bottom lines. Figo is one of the hottest selling models of the company and has witnessed continued growth. In fact, Ford Figo was voted Indian Car of the Year 2011 by a jury panel of leading automotive magazine editors. Wark has played a key role in this turnaround and is responsible for Marketing, Sales and Customer Service Operations at Ford India. Wark has extensive experience in sales, marketing and service and a strong knowledge of the 12 markets comprising Ford’s Asia Pacific and Africa (APA) regions.

Wark’s marketing secret is ‘know the pulse of the consumers right’. On November 23, Wark will be sharing many such secrets at the Bangalore leg of Pitch CMO Summit.

Other key speakers participating in the Summit include Antonio Helio Waszyk, Chairman and MD of Nestlé India (Keynote Speaker); Chander Mohan Sethi, CMD, Reckitt Benckiser (Keynote Speaker); Neeraj Chandra, COO, Britannia Industries (Keynote Speaker); Sandeep Kaul, Head - Personal Care Division, ITC (Special Address); Anuradha Aggarwal, VP - Brand Communication and Insights, Vodafone Essar; Bhuwan Gaurav, Marketing Head, Tanishq; Christian Saffer, Marketing Director, BMW India; Elkana Ezekiel, CMO, Samsung India; Jawed Habib, CMD, Jawed Habib Hair and Beauty; K Ramakrishnan, President - Marketing, Cafe Coffee Day; Karthi Marshan, EVP and Head - Group Marketing, Kotak Mahindra Bank; Krishnadeep Baruah, Director - Marketing, RIM India (BlackBerry); Lutz Kothe, Head of Marketing and PR, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India; Nigel Wark, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India; Sandeep Kataria, CMO, Yum Restraunts; Sharmili Rajput, Marketing Director, Oriflame India; Srinivas Murthy, Director, Marketing (Flavours), Coca Cola India; Sumit Sahay, Marketing Head, Infiniti Retail (Croma); and Vidur Vyas, Marketing Director, PepsiCo India - Foods, among others.
