SitiCable franchisee caught stealing ESPN-Star Sports signals

East Delhi Communication (EDC), a MSO franchisee of SitiCable, the cable arm of Zee Telefilms, has been booked under the Copyright’s Act for stealing signals of ESPN in East Delhi.

ESPN-Star Sports have all along been trying to catch MSOs stealing their broadcast signals and distributing it to the ground cable operators evading the subscription money. After becoming pay channels, broadcasters were finding it difficult to cope with the signal theft by the MSOs. But with the help of the new technology, a broadcaster is able to find out if MSO franchisees are stealing signals. With this they hope that such incidents would come down.

SitiCable said that the franchisee MSOs are responsible for matters related to piracy including obscene films. Therefore, SitiCable doesn’t hold the responsibility on what their MSOs are doing.

ESPN-StarSports had snapped the connection of SitiCable Saini Enclave control room on May 11, for non-payment of dues. The sports broadcaster charges Rs 18 per subscriber to the cable operator for legally telecasting the sports channel.
