One of the lucrative markets of the Hindi heartland, Chandigarh continues to be dominated by English dailies in the top three positions in IRS 2010 Q4 as well. However, Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar is the most read daily of the state, even as the second and third positions are still occupied by English dailies The Tribune and Hindustan Times (HT), respectively (in last two consecutive Quarters).
With an average issue readership (AIR) of 1.82 lakh, Dainik Bhaskar has seen positive growth of 6.43 per cent in readership in Q4 as against the Q3 results of IRS. The Tribune has seen growth of 4.49 per cent in readership and registered an AIR of 93,000. With an AIR of 88,000, Hindustan Times is the third most read daily in Chandigarh.
Hindi newspapers Amar Ujala and Dainik Jagran have seen decline in readership in Q4. While Amar Ujala has witnessed a decline of 7.69 per cent, Dainik Jagran has seen negative growth of 3.85 per cent.
The Times of India and Punjab Kesari did not see any change in their readership in Q4, as compared to Q3 results. However, The Indian Express has seen double digit decline of 26.67 per cent, while HT witnessed double digit growth of 28.57 per cent.
In periodicals genre, unlike the Q3 results of IRS, most of the magazines have witnessed decline in the readership. Only Vanitha (Hindi) has registered positive growth of 16.67 per cent in the list of top 10 most read magazines. Rest have either seen decline in AIR or did not see any change.
