Scott Goodson, 42, had a vision in 1996 for
a different kind of ad agency than the ones
he saw around himself. Consolidation had swept
hundreds of agencies under ownership of three
giant global holding companies. Investor expectations
started squeezing creativity in favor of short-term
profit. At a time when the Internet was beginning
to blossom, many agencies were still stuck on
the 30-second TV ad format. Goodson saw an opportunity
to create from scratch a creative agency that
Strawberry Frog was small and flexible, but
had a global perspective. Within three years,
he had up and running in Amsterdam. Goodson
grew up speaking French and English in Montreal,
where his grandfather had settled into the printing
business after moving from London. After graduating
from the University of Western Ontario in 1985,
Goodson traveled around Asia. Then he returned
to Canada for a short time before moving in
1988 to Sweden, his wife's homeland.
