FoxyMoron, the social media consultants for AXN, recently organised a ‘Supernatural Convention’ in India to promote Season 8 of the TV series ‘Supernatural’ on AXN. As part of this initiative, ‘The Great Saltgunners' Tweet Up was arranged.
‘Saltgunners’ is a nickname given to all fans of the ‘Supernatural’ series, as the two protagonists – Sam and Dean Winchester – use rock salt in their shotguns to repel spirits. With Twitter playing a big role for the initiation of this convention, AXN decided to come up with the name ‘The Great Saltgunners' Tweet Up.
The genesis of this idea can be traced back to when FoxyMoron spotted a tweet where a fan requested for a Supernatural Convention in India.
Harshil Karia, Online Strategist at FoxyMoron, observes that on social media, one needs to be a better listener than a speaker.
The participants for AXN’s The Great Saltgunners Tweet Up were sourced from Twitter. Users had to reply with #TheGreatSaltgunnersTweetUp and share why they should be a part of it. Within seven hours, the AXN India handle received more than 800 mentions, and 250 people across five cities confirmed their presence for the Tweet Up.
The Tweet Up was organised in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata over two days – October 25 and 26. At the event, fans were treated to the premiere of Season 8, quizzes and games where the fans had a chance to win exclusive ‘Supernatural’ merchandise.
Following the first edition of The Great Saltgunners Tweet Up, AXN India is planning to return with the second edition of the Tweet Up soon.
