BBC World News leads English news channel in India: Ipsos PAX Survey

BBC World News is the top English news channel in India among affluent viewers, according to the latest Ipsos PAX Survey (Q2 2012). The channel has reached this position by beating out competition, including CNN, CNBC-TV18, NDTV 24x7, NDTV Profit, CNN-IBN and Bloomberg TV.

The PAX results also show that when compared against both international and domestic news channels in India, BBC World News is the #1 news channel among India’s top executives, BDMs, investors, travelers and also among tech-savvy young Indians.

BBC World News is also shown to be growing its viewership year on year among opinion leaders, travellers and tech-savvy Indians. Among tech-savvy opinion leaders, BBC World News is increasing its market reach across the board with increases in daily, weekly and monthly viewing.

Jim Egan, COO, BBC Global News Ltd, said, “BBC World News continues to go from strength to strength in India. The channel has always had a loyal base, but our reputation for trusted and impartial coverage of global and local news is now picking up viewers across a broader segment of the population.”

He further said that viewers in India will have much to look forward to when BBC World News moves to its new base in Central London in the upcoming months.

The Ipsos PAX study surveys international and local media consumption and product consumption among affluent adults and business professionals in three cities – Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The latest survey covers Q3 2011 to Q2 2012.
