It may be recalled that Yahoo! India and the Jagran Group had partnered to launch Jagran Yahoo! India that offered Hindi content for samachar, cricket, cinema, literature, sakhi, josh, and more; in fact, their co-branded Hindi news and current affairs web portal aimed at seamlessly integrating the Hindi content of Jagran with Yahoo! India’s online presence. “We are continuing this five year old relationship with Yahoo. Now after completing 3 years, we have launched jagran.com that is now the flagship product for all JPL properties,” said Sukirti Gupta, CEO of MMI Online, the digital wing of Jagran Prakashan.
The objective of this move, was “to have our own brand and identity, as we move into the digital medium” Sukirti explained. She noted that jagran yahoo! and jagran.com together had 2.5 million viewers and the 2 mobile platforms between them had a million and a half users.
She explained that www. jagran.com is the flagship product for JPL properties, and they also have – inext.com, cityplus.com, jagranjosh.com, onlymyhealth.com, and jagranpost.com’ – “all are consolidated under the Jagran banner and we will be transitioning all the brands.”
The Hindi website of Dainik Jagran, www.jagran.com was formally launched at a function held in New Delhi on February 22. With a new look and feel, the website is aimed at fulfilling all aspirations of Hindi readers online. Formally inaugurating the website, Sanjay Gupta, Editor of Dainik Jagran and CEO-JPL said that with more than 5000 fresh articles a day being served 24x7 online, jagran.com is “all set to make now a mark on the internet space”. Being a multi media organization, JPL already has a strong foothold in the new media space with 2.5 million users a month already reading Jagran’s content on internet, mobile & tabs.
JPL Director Shailesh Gupta while calling it a promising start, reinforced the need for the digital team to be ready for the challenges to come and was optimistic about the future of the new media ventures of Jagran.
Bharat Gupta outlined the vision of Jagran.com, saying that the website will now be a full fledged and independent news website, designed and served on a fresh and interactive Template. In coming months, it will house all our other Jagran websites under a single domain.
‘We are aggressively looking forward at providing a rich experience wherever our audience is present., be it on the internet, mobile or other new media. Keeping this in mind, we are also coming out with more Apps on mobile, Iphone, Ipad, android and increasing SMS services on our shortcode 57272’, said Sukirti Gupta, CEO of MMI Online, the digital wing of Jagran Prakashan.
Shekhar Tripathi will be heading the content team of jagran.com. The website has a strong regional coverage with news from 200+ cities from 14 states being covered, apart from a strong cricket section, where readers can get the live coverage of cricket matches in Hindi.
