Flipkart.com has forayed into the emerging digital content market with the launch of Flyte, its digital music store. This store will allow users to discover and download music in the form of individual songs or entire albums from a collection that is backed by leading Indian and international music companies.

Speaking about the launch of Flyte, Sachin Bansal, Co-founder and CEO, Flipkart, said, “We had maintained that making digital content available was one of our focus areas, and this launch marks our first step in that direction. An online music store made sense given the wide appeal this category enjoys in the country. Needless to say, all the features that delight Flipkart customers – selection, convenience and customer service – will also be intrinsic to Flyte.”

Flyte offers music across 55 languages and 700 genres and sub-genres in Mp3-format music downloads that can be played back on any digital media device, be it mobile phones, PCs, tablets, car stereos and so on. The cost of download of single songs starts from Rs 6, while albums start at Rs 25. With Flyte, legal music will become available and affordable to everyone in India with Internet access - at the click of a button.
