With slight growth in readership, English newspaper Daily Excelsior has upheld its top rank in Jammu and Kashmir. However, Hindi dailies Amar Ujala and Punjab Kesari have seen decline in average issue readership over last quarter. With top three magazines have seen decline in readership in J&K, AIR of most of the periodicals has either declined or was static in last one year.
With an AIR of 99,000, English newspaper Daily Excelsior is the most read daily of the state. The daily has added 2000 readers over last year. Hindi daily Amar Ujala has faced decline in its popularity in state as its AIR tumbled down to 93,000 in Q2 2011, from 1.12 lakh in Q2 2010. Punjab Kesari did not report any change in its AIR compared to last year, but did lose 4000 readers in last quarter. The current AIR of Punjab Kesari is 37,000.
Meanwhile, Dainik Jagran has been able to add more readers in last one year as its current AIR reached at 29000. English dailies The Times of India, Hindustan Times and The Tribune recorded decline in AIR over last year. The Hindu and The Economic Times did not register any change in readership in last quarter.
With growth in AIR over last year, GK Today is the most read magazine of the state. India Today and Outlook Money has witnessed decline in readership as both lost almost 58,000 readers, combined. Fate of the other magazine was also similar in the state as most of them registered decline in readership.
