Cannes Lions 2011: 19 pieces of work from India in Press Lions shortlist

Nineteen pieces of work, across eight entries, have made it to the Press Lions shortlist out of a total of 267 entries submitted from India. Mudra has six pieces of work shortlisted. Grey Worldwide, McCann Worldgroup, BBDO India and Ogilvy each have three pieces of work shortlisted. TapRoot India has one entry in the shortlist.

Mudra Communication has two pieces of work, entries titled ‘Bus’ and ‘Mall’ for Olive Telecommunication’s Olive Tracer Phones in the Home Electronics & Audio-Visual subcategory. There are three pieces of work done for Stedfast’s Shredder Machine brand in the Business Equipment & Services subcategory and one entry of Union Bank of India’s Home Loans in the Banking, Investment & Insurance subcategory. These in all comprise three entries from Mudra shortlisted in this category.

Grey Worldwide’s three entries titled ‘Denim’, ‘Sweater’, and ‘Corduroy’ for its work done for Procter & Gamble’s Downy brand have been shortlisted under the Household: Cleaning Products subcategory.

McCann has three pieces of work for Onida’s i21 Mobile, entries are titled ‘City’, ‘Forest’ and ‘Sea’ in the the Home Electronics & Audio-Visual subcategory.

BBDO India has three pieces of works, entries titled ‘Nuclear’, ‘Terrorism’ and ‘Sea Level’ done for White Collar Hippies Travel Company, shortlisted under the Travel, Transport & Tourism subcategory.

Ogilvy India has three pieces of work ‘Guillotine’, ‘Snake’ and ‘Gun’ done for Perfetti Van Melle’s Mentos Sour Marbels in the Illustration subcategory.

TapRoot has one entry for the work done for Bennett, Coleman & Co’s Times Classified in the Commercial Public Service subcategory.

Press Lions, that recognizes Press and Outdoor as separate advertising media, has got a total of 5415 entries from 74 countries. There has been a 12% increase in the number of entries received this year as compared to last year. Out of 5415 entries, 267 entries are from India. The category has seen a little increase in the number of entries submitted from India as there were 244 entries out of a total of 4820 in 2010.

Tony Granger, Global Chief Creative Officer, Y&R is the Jury president for Press Lions this year. Amer Jaleel, National Creative Director, Lowe Lintas is the jury person from India. Apart from Global Jury President, there are a total of 18 Jury Persons from all over the world for Press Lions category.

The winners of Press Lions will be announced on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.
